Yakima is known for outdoor activities that include "blue ribbon" fly fishing and "lazy rafting" through incredible river-carved basalt rock formations. A trip south through the Yakima Valley will take you through several interesting smaller cities and right into the heart of Washington State's wine country. Also, be sure to stop in Toppenish, the "City of Murals," for a taste of the Old West, and the Yakama Nation Cultural Center for an understanding of the history and present life of the Yakama Tribe. Though there are a lot of hotels to choose, we just decided to stay here because this is within minutes away from the airport, Sun Dome, convention center and fairgrounds. It is also located in the surrounding area of wineries, casinos, museums, snow skiing, hiking, hunting, fishing and golfing.
